What is Content SEO

There are many companies offering car dealers Automotive SEO services which can mean different things to different people. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for car dealers ultimately should promote their brand and website ahead of their local competitors.

When a consumer searches for a specific brand or model car in their town, county or state, an Automotive SEO consultant should aim to have their client at the top of Google Page One.

SERP Result Catagories

Accomplishing better visibility for a car dealer's website on Page One of search results (SERP) can take many forms:

  1. Google Maps
  2. Videos
  3. Images
  4. Website Pages
  5. News Alert Icons (Press Releases)

These five classes of search results all have their place in Automotive SEO but for this article I would like to focus on Content SEO strategies. Content SEO relies on creating written content that includes the key phrases that you want to match when a consumer makes a search request.

Consumer Search Example

For example, if you sell Infiniti cars in Massachusetts and want to have your website appear on Page One of search results for the phrase "Infiniti EX35 Massachusetts" you will need to make sure that this phrase and content pertaining to the Infiniti EX35 is on your website.

A suggestion would be a dedicated website page discussing the features of the Infiniti EX35 and also adding comments from Massachusetts EX35 owners. You can use content from the manufacturers website and the color PDF brochure for the car. Keep in mind that you do not have to start from scratch when creating your unique page of content.

Proper Title and META Description Needed

The "title" of this special page could be "Infiniti EX35 Massachusetts Reviews" and the META Description could be "Infinti EX35 owners in Massachusetts share their experience with the Infiniti EX35 at Infiniti of Norwood." I recommend that the page have between 400-600 words on this specific topic.

By having a page that is optimized for just this one car and that includes your other key phrases, it has a great chance of being considered by the search engines as a content "match". If the page is soley about the EX35 and consumers reviews who live in Massachusetts, the keyword density will be high.

Make a List

If car dealers can prioritize their top 20 search phrases it will give them a guide on the content that they need to create for their website. By focusing on well written content that interests the consumer, you kill two birds with one stone.

The well structured content helps with your Automotive SEO goals and provides local shoppers with valuable customer reviews.

Content Often Neglected

In this article I am emphasizing "content" because it is the one task that is often overlooked by car dealers.

Many dealers have added their dealership to Google maps and uploaded a few videos on YouTube. This is important to do and part of a well rounded SEO strategy. However, dealers have been remiss at adding new content pages to their primary website each month and I believe it is very important.

If creating content is hard for a car dealer, they should contact an Automotive SEO content writer or even consider contacting a local college to locate a marketing intern. Dealers can often repurpose manufacturer press releases into localized stories fo their websites.

One reason why sites like Edmunds.com, Motortrend.com and Automotive.com show up for many car searches is because that have articles about the car on the market. Oddly, most car dealer websites do not have a page of text dedicated to detailing the benefits, features and reviews of the cars that they sell. The lack of content on dealer websites is hurting their organic search results.

Take Action

Car dealers who want more organic traffic to their website and want to lessen their dependance on Google Adwords should consider implementing a content SEO strategy that adds new content pages to their website each month. Dealers can also consider adding a WordPress blog module to their website to simplify how content is added to their websites.

There are many other techniques that are part of a successful Automotive SEO strategy that include link building, press releases, document sharing and social media. I'll address them in future articles but don't forget to take time to write!
